Product of the Week
=============================================

Okay, yes I'm an Internet business shop-a-holic. This week I picked up a membership to Affiliate Sales Letters.

It is a brilliant concept. Since I'm into making Info products I was drawn to the fact that it takes the most difficult part out of the equation: making the product.

What you get for being a member is: 5 Clickbank products sales pages completely re-written by a professional copywriter and a professionally written autoresponder series for the product.

Like I said it has a lot of the advantages of the Info product selling business [you get to build an opt-in list] but you don't have to worry about creating products.

Unfortunately for me it will likely become just one more idea that I never get to, but if you're looking for a quick start online business, this one would be worth giving a shot.

The Barking Dog

A couple months ago my neighbors got a new dog; I'm assuming they adopted from the pound since he was full-grown. The dog was then assigned to provide security for the family by being sentenced, probably permanently, to inhabit the smallish backyard...with only food and water and extremely infrequent contact with other sentient creatures.

This dog, unlike the 3 others that have been given a similar sentence, did not accept the conditions of his home. He barked non-stop. If we walked out our door he went ballistic, if a bird flew overhead he reacted as if a masked burglar was approaching the house. Basically anything was an excuse to lose it.

It was clear to me what was happening and it made me sad. The dog needed a master and/or a family or 'pack' ...that's just how dogs are wired. They are validated by social contact.

Animal Control
=============

After a month or so  of the non-stop barking it wasn't too much of a surprise that an animal control officer showed up at my door and said there had been a complaint against the neighbor's dog for the barking. She asked a few questions and left.

The Turnaround
=============

About a week later, there began to be a distinct change in the 'hood; there was distinct sound of no dog barking constantly. My wife and I were amazed that we could now walk out the back door and have supper on our deck without the dog acting like he would climb over the 6 foot fence and eat us for his supper.

What had changed?
================

The door to the neighbors house was open and the dog could now go into the house! A couple days later we saw the family actually playing with the dog...that was one seriously happy dog.

It was clear to me that what had happened was that the animal control officer had simply, rather than take the dog away from the family as I had expected, given them a bit of an education as to the needs and responsibilities of having a dog as a pet.

They had thought that they had picked a bad dog, but it was really them who had needed a bit of disciplining and enlightening.

Is this newsletter about pets?
======================

No, but if you remember last week's newsletter:

http://artofmoney.org/newsletter/10.html

I mentioned that I was suffering from too many projects-itis. And I also touched on the 3 traits that were necessary for a successful business: the entrepreneur, the manager and the technician.

Then it hit me, my entrepreneur was just like that barking dog. He was tying to control the whole business, constantly pushing his agendas rather than settling into an appropriate role, because he was not getting his needs met. He wasn't really being accepted into the business, or into my life as a whole.

Find the barking dog in your business
=============================

For me listening to and validating the needs of the entrepreneur has been essential to growing my business. Now that the entrepreneur knows that he is seen, he can relax and just stick to his job.

Unless your business and your life is successful beyond your wildest dreams, I'll bet you've got one or more barking dogs in your back yard, just like me.

They can be found in examining your behavior patterns. If a dog barks once, it may be really protecting its territory, but if it barks repeatedly for all the wrong reasons and disrupts you on your way to reaching your dreams, then you probably have a member of the family that you are neglecting or rejecting.  Bad habits are barking dogs.

Once you become aware of the barking dog syndrome you'll see them everywhere. They are particularly easy to spot in a traditional workplace. If the management isn't validating their employees the dogs will be barking and all types of subtle and overt sabotage will be the result.

The family next door learned a valuable lesson from their barking dog [and a very cool animal control officer].

My entrepreneur is much more content now that my manager knows how to receive the ideas he presents and can evaluate them in terms of how they fit into the company goals and vision.

Be open to your barking dogs and welcome them into the family and your business will grow in power and potential. Guaranteed.

Thanks for reading,

Jon
