Product of the Week
=============================================
Well to be honest, this space was supposed to be reserved for my
first product launch, but I didn’t quite hit my deadline, so just in
case you missed it on my site my video review of RoboForm will be
this week’s product.
I like RoboForm so much that I actually just bought a second copy for
my laptop and they have a syncing utility that will copy the stored
passwords between computers. They also have a portable USB version
which I cover a bit in my review:

Jon’s Business Update
=============================================
I’m going to try and keep it a bit shorter this week…to increase
readability
=========
Email List
=========
I have 38 subscribers, but 9 of them are unconfirmed, which means
that they didn’t click the link to validate the subscription so my
guess is that the message ended up in the spam folder. When I tested
on my own Hotmail account that is what happened, although Gmail got
it right…yet another victory for Google over Microsoft
Going forward I will probably switch to a professional list service
like AWeber in the near future. It is too important to have that kind
of percentage be left out because the free service can’t get the
emails past the spam filters.

Product Launch Delayed
====================
Yes, I’m a feature creep. I can’t help it I love to add more and
more, so what started out as a simple 20 minute video info product
has now turned into over 2 hours of instruction.
Guess what the leading cause of product development failure is in the
software industry? It’s called “scope creep” and it means that you
keep trying to add more and more features and the project never gets
completed. My new mantra is “just get it done Jon” as I learn that
having an imperfect product actually out there making some sales is
better than having the perfect product never see the light of day.
==============
Process Design
==============
One of the positive reasons for taking a while on my first product is
that I’m simultaneously documenting the process that I have been
following to create the product and making process flow diagrams.
My goal is to be able to hand over a set of instructions and diagrams
to another person or persons and have
them be able to follow the directions and produce a profitable
product without any direct involvement from me. I’m hoping that I can
have a complete set of directions [that also include a process of
continual improvement] available after my third product. Then I can
begin to work on the business rather than in the business.

JonJSymons.com…WTF?
=====================
Rich Dude [for newbies to the newsletter, that's the nickname I gave
to my mentor] informed me that I should have my blog in my personal
name in order to promote my Info products. My first reaction was WTF?
I don’t want to be a slave to a blog…I thought you were teaching me
to be free, not tied to my work?
I thought I would share his reply as I questioned him on the wisdom
of his advice:
“I was afraid of starting a blog for the same reason. I’m in this for
freedom. I’m always hesitant to add any process that is going to be
difficult to outsource. Generally I have always had only unskilled
processes that any admin could perform in my business for that
purpose. I
only changed my mind when a trusted mentor pointed out that ALL of
the
major player in EVERY market had several outsourced skilled
positions. In
fact, the correlation is astounding… the more skilled positions in
a
company and the more highly skilled they are… the higher profit the
company. Google is a great example of this. It is possible to
outsource
anything… even highly skilled and personal tasks. Some day there
will
be a person posting on JonJSymons.com under your name… very
competently.” -RichDude
Okay, so look for the first product this week, I’ll be offering a big
discount to my email list and probably having a sale on my blog [don't
worry ArtOfMoney.org is not getting decommissioned any time soon], so
you may get a special edition newsletter this week.
Until next week,
Jon
