I’ve made it to Pre-launch with my first Info Product.

My product is a series of videos step by step instructions where I
walk through the process of setting up a real hosted WordPress blog.
I go from keyword research to well configured blog in 5 short videos.
This product was inspired by a something I noticed often in my web
travels…many people sign up for “free” blogging accounts but they
don’t realized the real cost of that approach. They put a lot of
effort into creating a great site, but they don’t really own their
site.
I figured that there were 2 reasons why this was such a common
practice. The first was that people were intimidated by the potential
“technical skills” required by creating a real blog. The second is
that they didn’t want to spend any money.
It is my hope that 2 hours of a detailed walk through from someone
who has set up countless blogs will easily overcome the those
fears…it really isn’t very hard at all.
As for the money resistance that will be the challenge of my
marketing efforts. To attempt to convince people who are just
starting a site or who are already on Blogger sites, of the benefits
of switching to a real blog on their own domain.
I will try to play up the long term advantages for anyone who is
serious about blogging…which are that the better your blog becomes
that more it is worth if you own the domain name it is on.

Jon’s Business Update

Well it’s been a tough week trying to get the Info Product completed.
I purposely didn’t send this newsletter out last night for fear it
would turn into mostly me whining.
Basically I’ve re-recorded over 2 hours of video 4 times as I try and
learn the balance between getting it perfect and keeping it real.
I had a real melt down after I had done it twice and had done
everything and uploaded them all and when I finally went and watched
them, I realized that the sound was so bad that they were not
professional enough…even though the info was good.
I realized that is was really important to get the first product
right, since that would be the foundation for all the others. Also if
I was hoping to have affiliates and partners helping me sell the
product, they would be much less likely to get on board if there were
technical issues with the product.
So I got one of these http://tinyurl.com/jbjpb as recommended by the
Camtasia tech staff and the sound quality has improved dramatically.

Like Building a House

I’m seeing that creating a whole new business is a bit like what
happens when you build a house. There are several being built in my
hood right now and it is the same cycle.
For a long time when it appears there is nothing happening and then,
BAM it seems like in a week a whole house magically appears.
I’m hoping that my Info Products business experiences the part after
the BAM, to make the “long time when it seems like nothing is
happening” worthwhile.
I have been following my “Internet Business Manifesto” guidelines and
creating process designs and working strategically on the business and
not just “in” the business. I may share some of the process maps in
the future…it is really essential if you are building a real
business to map out stuff in pictures so you can see what is really
happening.
I was amazed at how much goes into a simple process like creating an
Info Product.

This week’s site is EarnersForum.com … a forum where the motto is:
“My credibility = My monthly earnings from my web business”
It looks like it is a spin-off from the Digital Point forums and
seems to be more focuses on making money from online ventures [I'm
reluctant to use the word business because there is not a lot of
discussion about systems] but it is worth checking out to notice the
ideas presented from the big earners.
